Story of Soil – 2016 Grenache

“Soil is the dirt between our fingers as we garden or farm, from which all living things come & to which as the poets never tire of reminding us, all life returns.”

Winemaker Jessica Gasca left her family & friends back in 2009 to pursue a new adventure in wine. After her very 1st harvest, having to wake before sunrise, working endless hours of picking & sorting, & fingers completely frozen, she marveled with being that connected to the earth. For the next 3 1/2 years, she devoted all of her time & energy to learning every detail, no matter how small. During her apprenticeship at Sanguis in Santa Barbara, Jessica saved literally every single penny & was able to buy her 1st batch of fruit in 2012.

Today, along side husband Brady Fletcher, they source fruit from vineyards in Santa Barbara that use Biodynamic farming practices & focus on single varietals. Tiny production at about 1000 cases in total are made. “Intuition” is the one word she describes her winemaking style. Her steady hand & guidance shapes each variety to show its self in its truest sense. Wines that are singular, compelling & beautiful. A must stop next time you are in the Los Olivos or Solvang area.

Slide Hill Vineyard is in a cooler pocket in Edna Valley in San Luis Opispo. 100% Grenache, 50% whole cluster, unfined & unfiltered. Aged in neutral oak for 11 months. Only 125 cases made!
