“The Petite Sirah has enough color, structure, and richness to handle that infusion of Bourbon. It was 14.5 percent alcohol; when it came out, it was 16.5 percent. A couple of gallons of Bourbon got soaked out of those staves, so it gives brown sugar notes, classic Bourbon flavors, but very mild. And it made the wine rich and increased the mouthfeel. Of course, alcohol does that a little bit. It was fun to see the aromatics that came from the Bourbon. It’s a delicious wine!”

WINEMAKER NOTES

Winemaker Eric Aafedt purchased 52 used American oak bourbon barrels to age our heritage Petite Sirah. With a whisper of whiskey left in each one, these barrels imparted subtle and sultry characteristics into the wine, including a richer mouthfeel, deeper toast and higher alcohol. The joining of Kentucky bourbon and Clarksburg Petite Sirah have once again brought you a wine to savor, relish and love with each sip.
